| Posted: 18 Jul 2009 02:01 AM PDT "I call on the Iraqi leadership to do its utmost to ensure that people of all religions can live together in peace," Pope Benedict XVI declared earlier this week, after a series of terror attacks struck six churches in Baghdad; a few days earlier, two churches in Mosul, northern Iraq, had been attacked. Thousands of Iraqi Christians have fled their homes, and 75 people were killed in the country during the last week alone. These can be added to a long list of dozens of dead and hundreds of wounded since U.S. forces withdrew from Iraq's major cities in late June. U.S. President Barack Obama's strategic compass, which at the outset of his term seemed stable and resolute, has begun to waver on various fronts throughout the world. ... |
